Creative i-Media at Trinity
iMedia is a relatively new course to Trinity in our endeavour to offer all pupils a broad and balanced curriculum, providing opportunities for all to find their talents.
In KS4 we follow the OCR Cambridge National examination board specifications. Skills that are common to all components are taught progressively throughout the year, scaffolding concepts as appropriate. Key components are addressed according to the exam boards' timetables of assessment.
Students must complete three units:
- One externally assessed unit
- Two NEA units
Unit R093: Creative iMedia in the media industry.
This is assessed by taking an exam.
In this unit you will learn about the media industry, digital media products, how they are planned, and the media codes which are used to convey meaning, create impact and engage audiences.
- Topic area 1: The media industry
- Topic area 2: Factors influencing product design
- Topic area 3: Pre-production planning
- Topic area 4: Distribution considerations
Unit R094: Visual identity and digital graphics.
This is assessed by completing a set assignment.
In this unit you will learn how to develop visual identities for clients and use the concepts of graphic design to create original digital graphics to engage target audiences.
- Task 1: Planning the visual identity and digital graphic product
- Task 2: Creating the visual identity and digital graphic product
Unit R098: Visual imaging.
This is assessed by completing a set assignment.
In this unit you will learn how to plan, create and review portfolios of visual imagery.
- Task 1 : Planning your visual imaging portfolio
- Task 2 : Creating your visual imaging portfolio
- Task 3 : Checking and reviewing your visual imaging portfolio
At Trinity iMedia aims to
Encourage students to:
- Understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of digital media including factors that influence product design, use of media codes and conventions, pre-production planning techniques, legal issues and distribution considerations
- Develop learning and practical skills that can be applied to real-life contexts and work situations
- Think creatively, innovatively, analytically, logically and critically
- Develop independence and confidence in using skills that would be relevant to the media industry and more widely
- Design, plan, create and review digital media products which are fit for purpose meeting both client and target audience requirements.
Assessment in iMedia
The cluster is formally assessed at the end of each topic (approximately each half term), which informs the data that is entered for school-wide data drops.
Assessment at KS4 is in line with specification guidance and is moderated within the cluster and externally, where appropriate.
Informal assessment and feedback continually happens with teachers rotating around individuals or groups, as appropriate, giving instant feedback for pupils to work upon, which feeds into an overall summative ‘assessment of learning’ which informs continued planning.
All results are awarded on the following scale:
Level 2 – Distinction* (*2), Distinction (D2), Merit (M2), Pass (P2)
Level 1 – Distinction (D1), Merit (M1), Pass (P1) and Fail/Unclassified
